Gansons SuperGran®
The SuperGran® is developed after decades-long research by Japanese technologists, adapted for modern industrial processing.
The SuperGran® efficiently addresses and resolves common challenges in large-scale granulation and mixing, ensuring:
- Predictable scale-up
- Batch consistency
- Optimized process times
- Homogeneous material behavior
- Energy efficiency
This cutting edge-design offers a seamless scale up from 1L to 3000L lot size.
Multi-blade impeller assembly
- The 4-C blade ensures uniform binder distribution throughout the product mass.
- The S-blade acts as a high-speed chopper for deagglomeration.
- A co-axial scraper prevents wall adhesion, keeping all material in the active shear zone.
- In EV battery applications, dedicated Dissolver blades optimise electrode slurry homogeneity.
- The combination of blades is selected based on product properties and desired granule characteristics.
Up to 90% faster granulation
Experimentally validated reductions in process time of up to 90% compared to conventional RMG designs have been demonstrated.
- The uniform shear environment achieves granule homogeneity faster because there are no dead zones requiring extended cycling to reach.
- Sharp endpoint detection based on time, torque, and other configurable process variables prevents over-granulation.

Eliminates bimodal behaviour
Bimodal particle size distributions are a common challenge with difficult APIs including paracetamol.
- The SuperGran®'s uniform shear environment prevents the segregation of fine and coarse fractions throughout the granulation cycle, producing consistent unimodal distributions that improve flow, compression, and content uniformity.
Capacity and Scalability
Available from 10L laboratory scale through 3,500L commercial production, with linear, validated scalability.
- A high turndown ratio of 20% to 100% fill in the W configuration allows flexible batch sizing within a single unit.
- The SuperGran® can also heat or cool the substrate in-process, accommodating temperature-sensitive formulations.

Frequently asked questions
How does the SuperGran® achieve up to 90% faster granulation?
The multi-blade impeller assembly creates a uniform shear environment throughout the product mass, eliminating dead zones that force conventional granulators to extend mixing time. The co-axial scraper keeps all material in the active shear zone throughout the cycle.
What industries use the SuperGran®?
Pharmaceutical granulation, nutraceutical production, food ingredient granulation, chemical manufacturing, and EV battery electrode slurry preparation.
Does the SuperGran® eliminate bimodal granule behaviour?
Yes. The uniform shear environment prevents fine and coarse fraction segregation. This is particularly documented for paracetamol and similar challenging formulations.
Can the SuperGran® heat or cool the substrate during processing?
Yes. In-process heating and cooling of the substrate is available, suitable for temperature-sensitive formulations and for processes requiring controlled thermal conditions during granulation.
